    Ark of the Covenant

I am new to this site, you all may have already discussed this.

I have always had a question about the "Ark of the Covenant". When Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the Temple I believe he removed all the articles of value to Babylon. Please, I am not trying to find out where the ARK is today.

My question is: Was the Ark of the Covenant back in the Holy of Holies when the Temple was rebuidlt by Ezra and others? Does anyone have any "teaching" or thoughts on this? For the Jews to have sacrificed animals and placed their blood on the Mercy Seat for forgiveness, the Ark would have had to be in The Most Holy place.

    Be Blessed, jmac.

Hmmm, I never thought about that.  Maybe Doc or someone has an answer for this one.

    Re: Ark of the Covenant

    Matthew 27:51,
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,

God or the presence of God had to have been in the Temple otherwise; Why would the curtain be torn in two. To me this is a sign that God left the Temple. More significant; Did the presence of God leave the earth when the body of Jesus died on the cross? So, the ARK was surely in the Temple.

    Thanks for input

    Re: Ark of the Covenant

I have heard about what you are talking about. In fact, one of the theories I have encountered is that it was in the Temple that Ezra had rebuilt. In 70 AD.  the Temple was distroyed the 2nd time by the Romans. I know you are not asking this, but some believe the Ark of the Covenant is in the hidden caverns of the vatican. I don't have any idea, but it is an interesting theory.

    Angela,

I think you are right on both counts, the Ark must have been in the Temple otherwise the Jews would not have sacrificing animals in the days of Jesus.

Many have said they believe the Ark is somewhere in tunnels beneath the site of the Temple.

Oh well, someday we will know, thanks,

    Re: Ark of the Covenant

I never thought about it being under the Temple site. I always thought the Romans would have taken all the things of monetary value. Interesting.   The thought of the Dome being over the Ark...is a interesting thought.  Thank You.

Angela, remember when Pastors Larry & Lorreta went to Isarael that upon their return he spoke about the "tunnels" or whatever under the Temple site.

    Re: Ark of the Covenant

Thank You so much jmac! I really enjoy researching the history of the Bible and Israel. It opens up so much to my understanding. Blessings to you. Again thank you for the time you took. I have been nosing around some of the other christian forums, and there is so much doubt and unbelief in them...even other christians don't want to believe all God has for them...Cfaith is so refreshing and full of faith.

    Thanks,

    Hi jmac -

Thanks for the link.  Looks like a wonderful website and I can see that although it will take me some time to get through it, this will be a study well worth it.

    Food for thought.

I received this from a teacher of the O.T. that I have been listening too.

The following is a quote from a teaching I have been listening too. I agree with this.

It is almost 100% that the Ark was NOT ever in the rebuilt 2nd Temple. There are various legends about what happened to it, but it is generally agreed that the Ark was either taken by the Babylonians or removed for safekeeping somewhere when the Jews knew that Nebuchadnezzar was coming.

    Blessings, jmac.

Even the Orthodox admit that is virtually certain that the High Priest sprinkled blood on the floor, at Yom Kippur, at the spot where the Ark would have sat had it been there.

So basically the presence of God would not have been in the Temple after the Babylonian exile and that all that happened there was ritual and ceremony.

    Re: Ark of the Covenant

The only thing about the presense of God not being in the Holy of Holies...is the  fact that the veil was rent from top to bottom when Jesus was crucified for our sins...signifying that God would no longer dwell in a temple made of human hands, but in the heart of man himself.  Just a thought. Thank you for the link...I am going to start the lessons. The pix on the website, are awesome. Thanks jmac.
