    My hobbie is knitting.

I started learning to knit about 3 years ago. It is so relaxing to me and rewarding. I can listen to the Word or music and make something for someone. I have 3 children & 7 grandchildren and year before last I knit the grandchildren mittens and hats for Christmas. Now I am into making socks. I just love making them. I use the magic loop, which is 1 long circular needle. I won't make everyone socks for Christmas but each one will receive a pair at some time. It takes longer to knit socks. If you have the least little desire to learn to knit, ask the Holy Spirit to help you and He will. He is our teacher. He has directed me to wonderful helps and sites for yarns. I even go to fiber festivals in our area to buy yarns and see how things are done.
Hope to hear from people who like to knit,,,,,,,,,
    Blessings to all,

I am a beginner at knitting, but I have crocheted and cross stitched for years and I teach crochet. My daughter, Tzietel, here on Cfaith, knits, crochets and does it all, including sewing.

I too like to crochet and cross stitch. My mom was an excellent seamstress. She could sew anything. She taught my 2 older sisters but when it was my turn, I wasn't interested. As a matter of fact, I failed homemaking in school. But know I wished I would have paid attention. I know it is not to late for me to learn to sew but right now it is knitting for me.

    Re: My hobbie is knitting.

Hi Redeemed and welcome to cfaith communities.  I learned how to knit last Christmas time.  A friend showed me how to begin and I learned alot from library books.  I was like a kid with a new toy, wanted to try all kinds of sizes of needles, etc. See, my daughter asked me to show her how to knit and I didn't even know myself.  So after I learned, I tried to show her, but she didn't stick with it.  I showed her how to crochet also, and she stayed with that for a complete scarf.  She is 19 yrs old.  I think she had a list of 100 things she wanted to do in life and knitting was on that list....  I definitely didn't learn hand crafts from my Mom or her side of the family.  Mom worked in a garment factory for 10 years but never sewed a stitch.  She pressed and inspected.  She could barely sew on a button.  My love of handiwork came from my paternal grandmother, and she taught me how to use the tredle (sp) singer machine when I was a little girl.  She taught me to hand piece and hand quilt, and I have posted a picture of my current quilt on my blog.  It is a double wedding ring queen size quilt if you would like to see it.  And my current knitting project is a baby afghan.  I thought I was half done (last week) but it turns out I am about a third done.  I am hoping to get it comleted before the baby outgrows it...LOL.  It is diagonal stripes, K3 P3 across and offset each row by 1 stitch, oh you know what I mean,so that it forms a diagonal pattern.
I hope more people write in about their hobbies.  I can listen to preaching cd's or on tv while I knit so I make good use of my time.
I forgot to mention I got a jump start on knitting yarn and needles:  when my aunt passed away, her husband found loads and loads of yarn and needles stashed away that she never had time to complete--so I inherited some.  I have not attempted socks with a heel, just spiral tube socks.  Also knit hats and scarves, simple stuff.  One of my quilting friends also knits so I get help from her.
Gotta run, hubby is outside washing the car all by himself!!

I hope more people write in too about their hobbies Shasta. Its nice to hear from other sisters & brothers in Christ and what they like to do and the talents God gave them.
I would have had lots of fun with the stash you inherited from your aunt. If I go to sales, thats what I look for: needles, yarns, etc. also Christian books.
You said you haven't attempted socks with heels yet. What I did was buy a video. Now you can get all sorts of instructions on the internet. If I can do it, anybody can make heels! Thats the part I look forward to making the most.
Have a wonderful evening. It's cold here tonight. Suppose to get a hard frost. Gotta snuggle bug in!

Any of you know any men that knit or crochet?

When I was a teen I walked into a friend's house and stopped cold in my tracks and looked hard at this man in the living room. It was my friend's father.

"Yes, I am crocheting... " he said without looking up. "I stopped smoking and took this up instead."

The moment I heard him say that I became very proud of him! I looked at the ripple afghan he was making and the stitches were perfect!

My son, Luke, now age 11, has been stitching (off and on) for years. I taught him to crochet, and Tzeitel (my daughter) taught him to knit!

    See!

That is so cool! I don't know 1 man that knits or crochets. But I heard that it was the men that started the knitting craze. ">

    Re: My hobbie is knitting.

I knit, crochet and sew.  I taught myself as a girl of 10 or so and used to do it quite a bit but not for many, many years.  I will get a desire to knit or crochet something, and purchase the yarn and start it, but then I drop it and never finish what I've started.  I have several grandchildren and great grandchildren on the way.  Maybe I'll start small.

I believe the last thing I actually finished was a bedspread.  I was believing God for a bed and I wanted to pay cash for it.  So I started making a bedspread for that bed.  After a while, when I was close to finishing the bedspread, I went and paid down on the bed and scheduled a delivery.  The day that the bed was to be delivered, I woke up with no money, but at 4PM when the delivery men rang the bell, I was on my way around the corner to pick up the money that had been supplied.

Thank you for bringing that memory back from the year 1972.

Seen like I’m missing so much fun because I know none of these skills; but I do cross stitching. It really needs a lot of patience; as a result I seldom do it…

    Re: My hobbie is knitting.

I've always admired people's skills at this type of thing.  My mother tried to teach me to knit and crochet but it never stuck. I could probably teach myself still as I have determination no matter what I set my hand to but I don't have the desire. But I do admire other people's handiwork and enjoy wearing what other people make. A friend of mine's mother is very skilled at the domestic arts: sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, etc.  She has given me a home made gift each year for Christmas for the last 4 years or so and they are some of my most favorite gifts I've ever received.

In the past I have received from her skilled hand: beautiful couch throw pillows, a crocheted throw for my sofa,  knitted scarves, crocheted doiles, crocheted tablecloth, and this year beautiful embroidered pillow cases.  I completely adore all these gifts from her skilled hand. I live vicariously through her gifts!

Well, I had said earlier tht I would post a picture of the baby afghan I was working on, that I had hoped to finish before he outgrew it.  I got it done and decided to give it to him for Christmas.  Now, let's see if I can upload it.

Does anyone mind me talking about crochet here too?

I am just finishing my first baby blanket that is not in a pastel color. I have stitched baby blankets for years, keeping one going because at any time I could get the news that someone is expecting! :) But I have never done one in chocolate brown!

The browns and teal/blues are out everywhere! A gal I know is doing her nursery in these colors and so I just chose to do a pattern with a lot of texture with one solid color. CARON yarn has no dye lot yarn that is SOFT, so I got some chocolate brown and away I went! It will match the nursery well. - KR

    Re: My hobbie is knitting.

I love to crochet!  I bought oldest daughter and some of my friends' children crochet learning sets for Christmas.  On Christmas night I was showing the girls how to crochet and the boys were playing with their Army model sets, and one of the boys came over and asked us what we were doing.  I told him and he asked if he could try.  He immediatly picked it up and made this huge chain in a matter of minutes while the girls were still working on how to do a slip knot.  I ended up sending him home with some yarn and crochet hook and a book on how to crochet.  I don't know how to knit though.

I'm another crochet-er. I'd love to learn how to knit though, but I'm no good at reading all those tri-color diagrams in the books. It's easier for me to learn watching someone like on that show on T.V. "Knitty Gritty" except I don't think that I need to know how to knit a bikini bathing suit. The water would make it stretch then srink and then it would be a barbie outfit.
