Hi Redeemed and welcome to cfaith communities. I learned how to knit last Christmas time. A friend showed me how to begin and I learned alot from library books. I was like a kid with a new toy, wanted to try all kinds of sizes of needles, etc. See, my daughter asked me to show her how to knit and I didn't even know myself. So after I learned, I tried to show her, but she didn't stick with it. I showed her how to crochet also, and she stayed with that for a complete scarf. She is 19 yrs old. I think she had a list of 100 things she wanted to do in life and knitting was on that list.... I definitely didn't learn hand crafts from my Mom or her side of the family. Mom worked in a garment factory for 10 years but never sewed a stitch. She pressed and inspected. She could barely sew on a button. My love of handiwork came from my paternal grandmother, and she taught me how to use the tredle (sp) singer machine when I was a little girl. She taught me to hand piece and hand quilt, and I have posted a picture of my current quilt on my blog. It is a double wedding ring queen size quilt if you would like to see it. And my current knitting project is a baby afghan. I thought I was half done (last week) but it turns out I am about a third done. I am hoping to get it comleted before the baby outgrows it...LOL. It is diagonal stripes, K3 P3 across and offset each row by 1 stitch, oh you know what I mean,so that it forms a diagonal pattern.
I hope more people write in about their hobbies. I can listen to preaching cd's or on tv while I knit so I make good use of my time.
I forgot to mention I got a jump start on knitting yarn and needles: when my aunt passed away, her husband found loads and loads of yarn and needles stashed away that she never had time to complete--so I inherited some. I have not attempted socks with a heel, just spiral tube socks. Also knit hats and scarves, simple stuff. One of my quilting friends also knits so I get help from her.
Gotta run, hubby is outside washing the car all by himself!!
