A Christmas Story…
It was early December 2005...when I had lost my job…
Being a single dad…with a 13 year old son was hard enough this time of year with the loss of a job too…
The car wasn’t running well either… As a matter of fact…we were having to add water every other day just to get where we needed to go and that included 23 miles one way to church, twice a week.
On my birthday…which is the 22nd of December…we received a phone call from our church office…
It seemed that the Pastor Billy Epperhart and his wife wanted to bless us for Christmas with a card…and inside was a gift card for Wal-Mart valued at 50.00...
I was excited…as it was…my birthday…and so close to Christmas in which I didn’t have a lot for him…
His youth Christmas party was that evening…so I to Christopher…that we would leave extra early…and maybe go shopping before I dropped him off at his party…
We shopped for over an hour…I had told him that we should be getting several small items and let the Pastor know how thankful we were…but…we ended up in an argument a few times and exited the store empty handed…
On our way to the car…Chris looked at me and said…”dad…the card isn’t meant for us”…
My jaw dropped…
In silence we went to Burger King to get a sandwich so that he would have something in him besides chips and cookies…and as we ate…I asked him to explain his statement…
He said he wanted to bless someone who was in more need than we were for Christmas…He said he wanted to see the face of the person who he gave the card to…too see someone else in need be blessed for Christmas…
When he said that…I could feel the tears rolling down my face…I had no idea I had such a wonderful son…
Meanwhile…another patron over heard him say all of this…and walked over to him and presented him with another card from Wal-Mart valued at 25.00... She wanted him to give hers away also when he gave his away…
At the party…I saw a single mom…with 3 little girls…and knew this would be a person to bless…
So Chris presented her with both the cards worth 75.00...just a few days before Christmas…and he didn’t even stay around long enough to hear her say Thank You…
Now…I just know he heard from God…in what other way would a teenage boy choose to give so much…so close to Christmas???
On Christmas Eve…we intern were blessed with 225.00 before 10:00pm Christmas Eve…from people that we never met before…and…a friend…
…It seems…You just cant out give GOD…
